Darlington Borough Council were the Authority with outstanding scores in the 'Road Safety Theme' achieving:
Highest in KB I22 - Road Safety Education
Highest in RSBI 07 – Safety of children walking to school
Highest in RSBI 09 – Road Safety Training/education – children
Top 3 in RSBI 10 - Road Safety Training/education – motorcycles
Top 3 in RSBI 11- Road Safety Training/education – young drivers
Darlington Borough Council's (ETP)Education, Training and Publicity Road Safety Team consists of four successful areas of work:
• Pedestrian Training for years 1,2 and 3
• Cyclist Training (Bikeability)
• School Crossing Patrol Service
• General ETP
Darlington BC has approximately 80 staff in total delivering services to residents. This is inclusive of office based staff supervising the smooth running of its main programmes. They gained ISO 9001 in 2009 and voted the best ETP education team in the NHT (National Highways & Transport Network) residents' survey in 2009 and 2015.
The award was received on behalf of Darlington by David Walters, Staffordshire County Council, Chair of the NHT Survey Steering Group, from Fiammetta Gordon, Deputy Director Local Transport, Department for Transport and Steve Gooding, Director, RAC Foundation at the NHT Conference in London on 22/10/15.
